If you own an iPhone, keep an eye on your mailbox this month. Apple has agreed to a $250 million settlement over claims tied to Siri, and eligible iPhone owners could be looking at a payout of up to $95.
What the Lawsuit Was About
The class action centered on delays in Siri’s development and rollout, with plaintiffs arguing Apple marketed features and capabilities the voice assistant didn’t actually deliver on schedule. Apple agreed to the settlement in May without admitting wrongdoing.
When Notifications Go Out
Under the schedule proposed by Apple’s lawyers, eligible customers began getting notified starting Monday, September 21, 2026, via both email and physical mail. If you’re eligible, watch for an official-looking letter, that’s your notice of the settlement along with instructions for filing a claim.
The Deadline You Need to Know
Once the claims period opens, eligible customers will have roughly 90 days to submit a claim, putting the expected deadline around Monday, December 21, 2026. If you don’t automatically receive a letter but believe you qualify, you’ll be able to file directly through the official settlement website once it launches.
Where the Money Actually Goes
Worth noting: not all $250 million is headed to iPhone owners. Roughly 28 percent of the settlement fund is earmarked to cover attorneys’ fees, meaning individual payouts will depend heavily on how many people file valid claims.
What to Do Right Now
Keep checking your email and physical mailbox through the rest of September and into October. A final settlement hearing has already been scheduled for February 24, 2027, with payments expected to start going out around that time. If you’re not sure whether you qualify, don’t assume you’re excluded, wait for official notice or check the settlement website once it’s live.
