The Milwaukee Brewers wrapped up the regular season with a 101-59 record, the best mark in all of baseball, as the playoff field settles ahead of October.
A dominant National League
Milwaukee’s 101 wins gave them home-field advantage throughout the National League playoffs. They’re joined by the Los Angeles Dodgers (98-62), who won the NL West, and the Atlanta Braves (93-67), NL East champions. Rounding out the NL field as wild cards are the San Diego Padres (89-71) and Chicago Cubs (88-73), while the Arizona Diamondbacks (86-74) and Philadelphia Phillies (87-73) finished just outside the playoff picture.
A tighter American League
The Tampa Bay Rays took the AL East and home-field advantage in their league at 97-63. The New York Yankees (93-68) and Boston Red Sox (87-74) both punched wild card tickets out of a stacked AL East. Cleveland (84-76) and the Chicago White Sox (83-77) claimed the Central’s two playoff spots, while Houston and Texas finished tied at 79-81, missing the postseason entirely out of a weak AL West.
Why the Brewers stand out
A 101-win season puts Milwaukee in rare company β teams that dominant have historically gone on to make deep playoff runs, though a great regular season is no guarantee in a short postseason series. Still, with the top overall seed and home-field advantage throughout October, the Brewers enter as one of the favorites to represent the National League in the World Series.
With the bracket now set, the postseason begins with a mix of proven playoff teams and clubs looking to prove they belong, setting up what should be a competitive October across both leagues.
